Alumni from School of Music make history in NYC

HKAPA alumni from the School of Music continue to make strides in their professional careers. Two graduates performed this month in New York City at the Metropolitan International Music Festival. MIMF, in its 3rd season, also featured musicians from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Chile, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, Russia,France, Spain, Israel, Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States.
CHAI Congcong (Dip ’05, BMus ’08, MMus ’10, VS ’11) won the Grand Prize in the Metropolitan International Piano Competition, and soprano Alison LAU Cheuk Yan (Dip ’10, BMus ’13) received the Outstanding Performance Award in the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition.
As the Grand Prize winner, CHAI was featured in MIMF’s 2014 Winter Gala Concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall the following week, this was CHAI’s Carnegie Hall debut.  LAU was also invited to sing for Metropolitan Opera conductor Maestro Gregory Buchalter’s masterclass at the National Opera Center.
